In conversation with… UK election chief Claire Bassett
Partnering for Learning
We put our vision for government into practice through learning partner projects that align with our values and help reimagine government so that it works for everyone.
Claire Bassett, chief executive of the UK’s Electoral Commission, is our latest CPI podcast guest. The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. This means that it offers support and guidance to those involved in elections and referendums, as well as seeking to ensure voters know everything they need to know about the process of casting their vote. And it also works to make sure people understand the rules around political party finance, taking action when the rules are broken and publishing regular information on political finance.
Claire sits down with CPI’s Nadine Smith to discuss the UK’s recent general election, the Brexit referendum, countering voter apathy and much more…
What is legitimacy to you? Where do you see legitimacy working well? How governments work with citizens to build legitimacy is a big question for CPI.
